Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21st September. The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.  The theme for 2017 is “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All.”

This year, the International Day of Peace will focus on engaging and mobilizing people throughout the world to show support for refugees and migrants.  United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres – “Together, let us stand up against bigotry and for human rights. Together, let us build bridges. Together, let us transform fear into hope.”

The Hiroshima Peace Flame was lit from the atomic fires which killed approximately 140,000 people on August 6th 1945 and has been kept alight ever since as a symbol of remembrance, forgiveness and transformation. It has been burning in Glastonbury since 2004 and in the Red Brick Building since it opened.
