THINKING THURSDAYS :THE SEVEN LIBERAL ARTS

LECTURE 7: NUMBER by JOHN MARTINEAU

After our introductory session on aesthetics, the four main lectures on the QUADRIVIUM kick off with an exploration of NUMBER. What are numbers? Why is life so phivey? Why are circles so sixy? Why is seven special? Why was the number ten so important to the Pythagoreans?

Come along and find out the answers to these and other questions as we lay the numerical foundation for the three final lectures of geometry, music and cosmology, still to come.
