The Red Hot Jazz Club presents

The Duncan Anselm Quintet

Playing the music of Charles Mingus

*N.B. Advance ticket sales will stop on Thursday evening. A limited number of entry-only tickets will be available to purchase on the door on Friday evening.*

The Red Hot Jazz Club are excited to welcome The Duncan Anslem Quintet to Glastonbury, playing all the best and well-known tunes by the legendary Charles Mingus.

Charles Mingus Jr. was an American jazz upright bassist, pianist, composer, bandleader, and author. A major proponent of collective improvisation, he is considered to be one of the greatest jazz musicians and composers in history.

With a career spanning three decades, he collaborated with other jazz musicians such as Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and Herbie Hancock.

His compositions retain the hot and soulful feel of hard bop, drawing heavily from black gospel music and blues, while sometimes containing elements of free jazz and classical music. He once cited Duke Ellington and the church as his main influences.

Duncan Anselm on Alto-sax is a very familiar face in the West and has performed many times in various guises. Joining him tonight, we are thrilled to have Sam Crockatt, a well-known name on the Bristol and London Jazz Scene playing Tenor-sax. They will be supported by amazing local players Richard Jenkins on Piano, Luke Belcher on Bass and Jon Clark on drums.

Tonight we will be enjoying some excellent versions of the very best Mingus tunes, including the smooth ‘Goodbye Pork Pie Hat‘, the exultant ‘Better Git It in Your Soul‘ and the up-beat ‘The Jumpin’ Blues‘.

Plus, there’s the option to enjoy a delicious dinner from The Old Tannery while you watch the show.

Come down to the Jazz Club, pre-order some Jazz supper from The Old Tannery and join us for a sumptuous night of Mingus moves.
