A Slide Show about Malawi – The Warm Heart of Africa – one of the six poorest countries in the World
7.30-9.30pm – The Morland Room – £5 on the door
After two visits in the last 3 years, returning to the home where my siblings and I were born, I would love to share some of the photographs and videos that I have brought back with me.
These visits have led me to create a Permaculture project in the neighbouring village, Mponda and the nearby Domasi Mission Secondary School, with the help of the charity Makwawa Malawi.
Malawi is a beautiful, under-developed country. Most of the population are subsistence farmers and their livelihoods are easily affected by drought, pests and disease. There is a growing reliance on international aid, pesticides and fertilisers. The soil is being depleted and the most wonderful natural resource, Lake Malawi, a fresh water inland jewel, twice the size of Ireland and famous for its tropical fish, is also under threat from possible oil drilling
Please, come and join me as I show you around this amazingly resourceful and curious culture, visiting permaculture projects, local families, villages and schools.
