The Red Brick Building has always been the ideal place for creative people, with its art studios, radio station, regular exhibitions and music events. To add to this mix of culture and arts, they are teaming up with published author Alison Knight to offer creative writing classes.
Two free taster sessions are being offered, on Monday 17th September at 11.30am and Saturday 22nd September at 10am. She will also be running a spooky writing workshop for children on Tuesday 30th October.
‘I’m so excited to be working with the community at The Red Brick Building,’ says Alison, who moved to Street in July. ‘I’ve been teaching creative writing and life writing at Wiltshire College for the past three years, as well as working on my own writing and editing books for other authors. I’m looking forward to meeting writers from the Glastonbury and Street areas and to becoming part of the creative community here.’
Alison has had three books published and has two new books coming out in 2019. ‘I love the creative process and really enjoy running workshops and courses to help others to developing their writing. I don’t pretend to tell people how to write, but rather to look at things like character development and settings and structure to help inspire them. All of my classes include short writing exercises which are fun and help people to think about different possibilities and scenarios.’
The free taster sessions will run for 90 minutes and will look at the questions: ‘Who? What? Where and When? They are suitable for new and experienced writers.
‘I hope that everyone will enjoy the taster sessions,’ said Alison. ‘I’d like to set up some courses and workshops at The Red Brick Building if there’s sufficient demand.’
